taking a few steps off it’s usual housy path, metereze presents a fresh new face and a more techno approach to dance music. it is melodie that signs the 4th installment and he is taking it deep into the realms of acid with 3 tracks that not only go well together but they are all meant to make you move in a big way.
acid sunday is as acidic as the name suggests it but in the end it’s the most poetic of the 3. the subtle pads are kinda dreamy but the 303 sounds make it super driving. on the same side we have rhythmico which is dark, percussive and powerful. subtle background bleeps complete the wandering synth that comes and goes but never really seems to go away.
housed on side b justa is a techno monster in its own right. sonically very close to the other two, this is by far the darkest track on this ep. and probably the strongest. techno infused house you may call it or whatever, this is the kind of track that puts you on a serious move whenever, wherever.

capsule labs music groups debut release is a 4 track house ep from label boss gil t (om, drop music, deeper shades). taking off with the lush sounds of flight 107, a smooth synth journey, nicely descends to get down low¯. the afro cuban house beat sets a nice groove for the live jazzy vibraphone stabs of this classy track. the b side is a real bonus. the private driver really cruises and lastly, not so low is a chunky finisher remix of the title track, all done in house. locally farmed variety of true analog precision by gil tamazyan. each release has its own plastic drop card with a string being held in place with a limited pressing metal foil sticker individually numbered 1-500 on the back side of the jacket. heavyweight virgin vinyl.

behind the next release on meant records are italian duo boot & tax, a relatively new pairing made up of claudio brioschi and cristiancroce. here they serve up three great originals baced with a stellar remix from alien alien. before now, boot & tax have released two extremely well received eps on jd twitchs optimo trax and have also recently had their music licensed to erol alkans fabric live 77, so the pair are really on the up.

entitled narita, the release is inspired by, and dedicated to, japan, and the tracks are a collage of all the experiences and emotions the producer has picked up there whilst on his travels. this release was also due to be the 44th on the label (which has now made it up to number 67) and so has clearly been cooking for a long time. once again it proves the man behind it to be focused on stripped back and hypnotic grooves, shadowy textures and subliminal synths that are abstract and truly heady. up first, sleepless is a spooky and hypnotic techno roller with icy pads and rubber drums that roll on like a haunted midnight train burrowning deep into your brain. ebisu is even more reserved, with just a light, skipping kick and tinkling, glassy keys suspending you in a wide open space of abstract atmospheric soun d. on th e flip side, mountain splitter is more urgent and immediate, with nervy pads this time racing alongside woodpecker precision and supple drums. it s heady stuff that really distracts you from the world before finally trance is a wash of grainy white noise and groaning synths that soundtrack a word deep down in the depths of the ocean. svreca is a master of getting deep inside both body and brain and does so in different but captivating ways with all four of these cuts.

following on from the the likes of the excellent son.sine re-issue, delsin kicks off 2015 with another one in the form of micronism s steps to recovery ep. originally released on nurture records in 1999, the ep, which comes in black and limited coloured vinyl, is a bonafide deep house classic from the short live career of new zealander denver mccarthy. engaging causelss mercy is a contemplative, atmospheric affair with soft drums and celestial pads that could roll and roll forever and you d never get tired. the quiet mind is just as deep, but the spiralling pads and rippling melodies here are more colourful and charming. both tracks are hugely spacious, luxurious affairs whilst constructing space on the flip is a more stripped back and humid number that is more enclosed and oppressive for cosy back room spaces. finally, the title track is a playful, elastic house track with heartwarming hooks and pinging drums. this tasteful ep shines a light on some definitively deep tracks that really do deserve the attention that will now inevitably come their way.

the french born but valencia established silvain soulier has grown as his home label sincopat. darlyn vlys has reached top labels as suara, mos ferry, terminal m, form, noir or avotre. he joins now the prolific brighton boy thomas gandey, aka cagedbaby, with a succession of club hits in his career, a really close friend and collaborator with radio slave and fatboy slim and a regular on get physical amongst others. they present two amazing original tracks that show perfectly the vocal skills of thomas and the edge production of darlyn vlys. hero and dont do it are a mixture of breaks, organic bass and cinematic music. yousef, the man behind circus recordings, delivers a surprising rework to destroy the dancefloors. by his side, stefano ritteri choose the dynamism to get a solid piece of tech-house.

san francisco-based dj/producer nick monaco has long been part of the soul clap family, releasing his first 12- on the label back in 2012. mating call, a double 12- set running at album length, is easily his most expansive release yet. it s typically eccentric, delivering a range of songs - featuring his own distinctive vocals - that blend numerous styles whilst retaining a loose, funky and altogether rather kaleidoscopic feel. it s rooted in balearic pop, but also touches on dub, deep house, boogie, dub disco and a strangely deep and contemporary take on the triple-beat rhythms of glam rock. it s hard to accurately describe, but is really rather good, certainly, it s one of soul clap s strongest releases of recent times.

after the first collaboration on samuel deep s native tribe ep, these infamous jungle brothers decided to do a full ep together. when together they go by ingi visions and have a unique heavy underground sound made for dancefloor destruction. the -get slapped- ep features two solo tracks as well wich really represents their own styles. u can expect a lot more music from the brothers in the future

opening up with the deep space atmospherics of quiet life the album immediately transports you to another world. the title track is then a melodically lush and uplifting affair with curious synth patterns ebbing and flowing beneath crisp percussion. tracks like we search for answers combine organic, wooden textures with more synthetic and trippy synth sounds that are as far away from your standard sample packs as can be imagined. across the course of the album there are dark, moody and emotive pieces like worship (previously released in extended form on the mdl02 single) featuring qzen who reads a poem by patience agbabi in tantalising fashion as well as heavyweight, dubbed out techno groovers like shadow theory. make it true (of which seth troxler will be releasing an extended edit on his play it say it label, complete with high profile remixes) is another great collab featuring the vocals of jojo de freq, and the track itself is a harmonious, radiant house jam that is humid and human in equal measure. the otherworldly, snaking feel free again showcases berkson & what s ability to coax alluring emotions out of their machines and closer logan five wraps things up in suitably spangled, textural fashion. despite the fact much of this album will work on a dancefloor in the hands of the right dj, there s an invention and musicality to it that renders the whole thing hugely listenable away from the club. a testament to berkson & what s analogue invention and fluid ideas, keep up appearances really is a master electronic oeuvre.

daniel andreasson, a brilliant swedish producer, previous released on tabernacle, skudge, zodiac 44 to mention some. his release on borft shows a dirty lowtech techno that really works on the floor. this is a limited edition of 300 copies.

first in series of recently uncovered box bangers, from e. myers. not much is known about e. myers, nor whether he is currently active, or where this really came from. what is known is that this could line up aside shep pettibone to modern house and techno, and that there is plenty more to come. needless to say, limited edition one sided white label.

iib s latest release is an ep from the clandestino crew. first track is a slo mo cosmic melodic acid dub. a beautiful early evening trip. this is remixed by the beat broker who adds a few sublime uplifting west coast sprinkles. the first track on the b side is a solid disco tinged house beauty with synth stabs subtle acid undertones claps and a great sample. the final track is beyond the sun. a mellow eastern tinged sundowner featuring another great sample. this ep really captures the original iib sound and philosophy. a real gem.

chris “bam bam” westbrook is one of the unsung heroes of chicago house. his westbrook label was responsible for releasing a slew of quality records from artists like armando & mike dunn as well as his own productions. one record that mysteriously never officially came out on the label was “hot spot” from 1987, never making it past white label stage. here, for the very first time, “hot spot” finally gets a full release boasting all 4 alternate mixes of the track by the man himself. suggestive lyrics, chattering drum machine rhythms and uplifting pianos in the classic raw chicago style are what makes “hot spot” a special re-issue. harking back to a headier time, the record still slams hard today and shows contemporary producers how house music should really be done. a long lost, un-released nugget from the old school, re-mastered from the original dat and officially released for the first time with original westbrook label artwork in conjunction with bam bam / westbrook records, chicago usa.

long established detroit talent keith worthy traverses a fine line between deep, bumpy house and raw techno on his debut double album, the price of non-conformance. t.p.o.n.c. is a conceptual project that takes you on a virtual walk through the streets of detroit. from a musical standpoint, the sound and feel of t.p.o.n.c. aligns with worthy’s own dna, a complex blend of house and techno, and all while incorporating a degree of fantasy into every composition. always striving to create his own path, and never allowing everyone else’s “norm” to become his influence, worthy really excels in this long player format. in total, t.p.o.n.c. consists of 14 tracks (including 8 songs and 6 interludes) all crafted to convey a vision of what non-conformance looks and sounds like. t.p.o.n.c. has range, from the boom-bap of the drums to the unorthodox patterns and key structures, this project evokes a sense of individualism that often gets lost in todays modern world of musical proliferation. in true detroit fashion, and in tandem with the spirit of aesthetic audios own mantra, t.p.o.n.c. maintains, the rule is there are no rules.

the ep is called spotlight diktat in reference to the feeling some djs have when they are on tour. a kind of dj melancholia generated by airplanes, dehumanized hotels, waiting hours in boring terminals, basically traveling alone. i made these tracks out of this mood. at first they sounds like the typical groovy dance tracks, but when the melody comes out, you immediately feel there is something wrong now the track is on and you still dance (of course its made for that) but you could almost cry to it too. so this is what happens when a dj or a producer has to do their job, but they aren t really in the mood for it. when the party comes, they just forget everything and make the show happen regardless. they have to bear the spotlight diktat and keep on entertaining people regardless of what they have in mind.

a new label is born, based in london discobar introduces their first release, produced by odd soul, a dear friend of theirs. spending many nights producing music in his studio, this french artist has finally become ready to showcase his talent. this ep is based on three light-hearted, trippy loops and original tracks. on top of this, the mole has added his authentic classy touch to remix odd souls work. this really is a family affair which is not to be missed.
